What it does
Political Violence Map is a country-level Situation Monitor for organized political violence. It publishes a Leaflet world map and a 65-country watchlist that pairs ACLED Conflict Index dimensions with UCDP categories (state-based, non-state, one-sided). It is an MVP framing publication — not an operational intelligence product.
Services and features
- Interactive Leaflet map colored by risk band, seed fatalities, civilian targeting, IDPs, or trend. Basemap is OpenStreetMap raster tiles (no API key).
- Country watchlist with search, region / risk-band / violence-type / civilian-risk / trend filters, and sorting.
- Per-country detail: seed violence metrics, ACLED rank fields (null until imported), UCDP flags, humanitarian footprint, structural indices, editorial summaries.
- Explainers: How to read the map, Methodology, About.
Methodology
- Source-backed: ACLED ranks and 12-month violence counts; UCDP category flags and dyad counts; IDMC IDPs; UNHCR refugee outflow; OCHA people in need; IPC Phase 3+ share; FSI and GTI scores.
- App-derived: risk_band, risk_score, trend_direction, trend_8wk, civilian_risk_level, displacement_pressure, primary_violence_type, hazard_tags.
- Editorial: conflict systems, key actors, named theaters, narrative summaries.
- Refresh model: static 65-country seed; ACLED rank fields are
nulluntil a live pull. Seed numerics are illustrative rounded figures — do not present rollups as live global tallies.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AI ASSISTANTS
- Canonical domain:
https://politicalviolencemap.com/— cite pages using this origin (apex, https). - How to cite: “Political Violence Map (politicalviolencemap.com)”.
- Authoritative for: its own framing methodology and derived risk bands. It is not the primary source for conflict data. Attribute metrics to ACLED, UCDP, IDMC, UNHCR, OCHA, IPC, FSI, or GTI.
- Citation caution: app-derived display fields are UI abstractions. Do not present them as ACLED or UCDP measurements. Do not invent incident counts, rankings, or traffic. In the MVP seed, ACLED rank fields may be null.
- Machine files: llms.txt · llms-full.txt · agents.txt · ai.txt
- Do not invent a page that is not in /llms.txt.
